Eligible candidates must hold an outstanding university degree (MA, MSc or equivalent) in biology/zoology or pre- or protohistoric archaeology. A fundamental requirement for qualification is the ability to collaborate in a team of researchers from different scientific disciplines.

About the position
The doctoral position will be closely associated to the sub-project B2 »Transitions of Specialized Foragers« within the Collaborative Research Centre »Scales of Transformation: Human-Environmental Interaction in Prehistoric and Archaic Societies« (SFB 1266). If successful, the PhD-candidate would graduate from Christian-Albrechts-University, Kiel. The main goal of the three years fellowship is to lead to a PhD degree.

The PhD project should address the development of Mesolithic animal exploitation and human influences on ecosystems and fauna both on local and supra-regional scale. To do this, the unique assemblage of animal remains from the site Friesack 4 (Brandenburg, Germany), with all finds already identified to species level, will be available for all necessary analyses. We invite candidates to present a project proposal including main research questions and methods allowing to answer them.

Application
The application may be written in English or German. It should include an outline of the proposed PhD research project (2 to 5 pages), a time schedule for the completion of your project, a bibliography connected to the PhD research project, a short summary of the master thesis (maximum 3 pages), curriculum vitae, copies of higher education certificates and diplomas, list of academic publications (if any), and two letters of reference.
