The Archaeometry Lab at the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) seeks to recruit a postdoctoral fellow specializing in compositional analysis of lithics, ochre/earth pigments, rock art, ceramics, glass, or other archaeological materials.
Regional interest and materials specialization are open.

The Archaeometry Lab is a world leader in provenance studies, with in-house facilities for neutron activation analysis (NAA), mass spectrometry instrumentation (LA-ICP-MS/OES, MC-ICP-MS), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF), as well as access to Raman spectroscopy and Electron Microscopy through partner departments at the University of Missouri.

Prospective candidates will submit proposals for independent research projects with a strong rationale for using one or more of the supported methods. Training will be provided where necessary. The successful candidate will be highly motivated to conduct their independent research, prepare manuscripts, and submit grant proposals. Short-term, externally-funded fieldwork is permitted. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing, externally-funded projects through their direct Supervisor.

The application process requires prospective candidates to submit a short proposal outlining their project, which should include demonstrated access to research materials for the duration of their project.

The initial appointment period is for one year with the potential to extend for a second year. Start date is flexible, but preferably by summer 2021. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment. Flexibility will be accommodated for some remote work due to pandemic circumstances.
Additional information about the lab is available at Archaeometry.Missouri.edu

Prospective candidates should send a brief message of interest and CV to Dr. Brandi L. MacDonald (MacDonaldB@Missouri.edu) to assess project feasibility. Qualified applicants will then be invited to submit a full application to MU posting here.

A review of applications will take place after February 26th 2021, but will remain open until the position is filled.
