The Hominin Dispersals Research Group is seeking a candidate for a partially-funded PhD position

The project involves modelling the spatial distribution of Neanderthal populations in Western Europe during the Late Pleistocene.

 

Guaranteed funding in the form of research assistantships is available for $10,000/per annum for 4 years; additional funding is available from the Université de Montréal and the department of Anthropology on a competitive basis.

 

The student, who will be co-directed by Profs. Ariane Burke and Julien Riel-Salvatore, should have basic skills in the use of Geographic Information Systems (arcGIS) or be prepared to acquire them. Training in the compilation of complex archaeological, climatological and geographical datasets will be provided. Students in HDRG collaborate closely with leaders in their field and co-author papers with senior researchers in addition to producing original theses and independent publications.

 

The Université de Montréal is a francophone institution and basic spoken French is required; the thesis may be written in English. Interested candidates should contact Drs. Ariane Burke or Julien Riel-Salvatore for further information.
