The Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum, Leibniz Research Institute for Archaeology and the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz (Arbeitsbereich Vor- und Frühgeschichtliche Archäologie), are seeking :

 

- Postdoctoral Researcher in Use-wear analysis (Pleistocene / Early Holocene Archaeology)
 

The position entails overseeing the design and execution of experiments on bone and stone tools. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. and a creative and significant track record on innovative approaches to use-wear analysis with applications to Pleistocene and early Holocene archaeology. An openness to conducting both controlled and replicative experiments and a dedication to the development of rigorous and open standards is essential. Prior experience with controlled experiments, tribology, advanced microscopy techniques, and computer programming is desirable.


- PhD position in Use-wear analysis (Pleistocene / Early Holocene Archaeology)

 

•    Qualified candidates should hold a Master degree in Prehistoric Archaeology,
•    Solid knowledge in one of the following topics: organic tools (e.g. bone, ivory, etc.), stone tools, or residue analysis from Pleistocene and Early Holocene contexts
•    It is desirable that the candidate shows basic competences in use-wear analysis and/or controlled experiments.
•    Extraordinary interest in interdisciplinary research

 

The Monrepos Archaeological Research Centre and Museum is a part of the Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum (RGZM), Leibniz Research Insttute for Archaeology. Situated at Monrepos Castle near Neuwied in the Central Rhineland of Germany, the Centre examines the historical processes of the evolution of hominin behaviour through the contextualized and interdisciplinary study of Pleistocene and early Holocene material remains.

 

Department languages are German and English.
